“Free and Raised Up”

Jesus had been conversing with the father of the boy (see previous posts).

And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”
But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering. His time was short. He was not interested in a “show-n-tell” exhibition for the people. He was interested in setting the captive free.
Jesus then took action. He rebuked the unclean spirit. How? We are told. By saying to it “you deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
Jesus defined exactly who the culprit was - deaf and mute spirit. Jesus commanded the spirit - did not request, did not ask, did not “pray about it”. Jesus told the spirit what to do...
- come out of him - do not enter him
The reaction of the spirit?
The spirit cried out - through the boy. The spirit threw the boy into terrible convulsions. But, then the spirit came out.
The boy was as if dead. The people thought so. Such was the degree of the convulsions. Such was the degree of the battle.
But, then Jesus! Jesus took the boy by the hand. Jesus raised the boy up.
The boy got up. Free! Delivered!
The Lord desires to do likewise, using true believers. Religionists will scoff and snicker behind our backs. But we know, there is power in the Lord to set the captive free!
Let us do so...
