"Nevertheless..."

“Nevertheless…”

Blessings Folk!

We saw yesterday that we are to avoid worldly, empty chatter.
Today, we look at verse 19, but we must remember the context of “nevertheless”...read again...

2 Timothy 2:16-19
16 But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,
17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.
19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”

Know this Truth.
The Firm Foundation of God stands.
It has a seal.
What is the context?
Those who, through worldly, empty chatter, have been led astray from the Truth...and are now leading others astray.

“Nevertheless”? The Lord is saying that regardless of the fact that some will turn away...some will be led astray...the Lord knows those who are His.

Think on that.

The Lord knows those who are His.
He knows the frauds and fakes.
He knows the true believers.
He knows where each of us stands.
Do we know where we stand personally with the Lord?

Then…
Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.
We are to cease sin.
We are to abide in Him and live holy.
This is possible.
Not in the flesh.
But in the Spirit.

Rejoice and stand in the Firm Foundation…

  1. The Lord knows who are His…
  2. True Believers are to abstain from wickedness.
