This is one of the teachings of Jesus that the world knows well.

They always throw it in the face of Believers.
Believers also misuse the teaching.

To understand “judging” one must have the complete counsel of the Word.
This is a portion thereof.
Let us focus on it.

Jesus is saying to be not hypocritical.
Do not judge someone for the very same thing you do.

Begin with yourself.
Judge yourself.
Take care of yourself.
Then you can help your brother.

Be careful of the measure by which you measure.
What is your standard?

Give heed to the concise instructions and related fruit…
  • do not judge, and you will not be judged
  • do not condemn, and you will not be condemned
  • forgive, and you will be forgiven
  • give, and it will be given to you
    • good measure
    • pressed down
    • running over
    • poured into your lap
    • the measure you use will be the measure you receive

Interesting that the “NET Bible Synopsis of the Four Gospels” chose to include the John 8 passage - the woman “caught” in adultery.
This is an example of forgiveness.
This is an example of mercy.
This is an example from the Lord of how to give someone a “place to begin again.”
Certainly, she was guilty...so was the man...wherever he is (I suspect a religious ruler)…

Mercy forgives the guilty.

How dare we do anything less…

Forgive.
