"Lest Ye Die"

“Lest Ye Die”

Blessings folk!

The Woman was encountering the serpent.
The Woman had responded to an inquiry…a setup from the serpent.
The Woman had told the truth…but, then she added her own addendum.

Read again and watch what occurs afterward.

Gen 3:1-5

Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

The Woman stated that they were not to eat of the Tree (Of Knowledge of Good and Evil).
She then said “neither shall ye touch it”.
God did not say that.

Then she says this…”lest ye die.”

Our use of the word “lest” connotes a possibility of something.
It was not just “possible”.
God said that if they ate of the tree they would die.
Not perhaps.

Certainly, “lest” could also mean a certainty of fact.

Either way, she knew that death was involved.

Interesting that God communicated to them the concept of death.
They had never seen death.
They had never experienced death in anything in creation.

What was the response of the serpent?
“Ye shall not surely die…”

He countered the Word of the Lord.
He lied to her face.

This is what the enemy does.
He will confront us with a subtle perversion of the Lord or with a bold-face countermand of the Word.

Can’t you just hear the soft whisper of the evil one…oh “you will not surely die…”.
Then he explains the reasoning…

Do not believe the voice of the evil one.

…to be continued…
