“Veil Torn, Centurion Knows”

Blessings folk!

Jesus uttered His last and died.

Watch what Mark recounts as happening next…

Mar 15:37-39

And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.

And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him,
saw the way He breathed His last, he said,
“Truly this man was the Son of God!”

The veil in the temple…

  • Very tall
  • Very think
  • Was torn in two from top to bottom
    • Impossible by the hand of man
  • The torn veil would reveal what was in the holy of holies
    • Nothing
    • The Ark had long been gone…since the time of the Babylonian captivity (~600 years)
    • There had been no true sacrifice of blood before the Lord
    • The glory of the Lord had not appeared
    • Their religion was a sham
  • The separation between God and man now no longer existed.

A vivid picture of most religion today.
Even “evangelical”.

The centurion, a Greek, knew the truth.
“Truly this man was the Son of God.”

He had seen how Jesus had endured.
He had seen how Jesus gave up His Spirit (normally it took much longer to die in this manner).
He had experienced the darkness at noon.
He experienced the earthquake and breaking of rock…

Mat 27:54

Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus,
when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening,
became very frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

Those “with ear” could have heard.
Those “with eyes” could have seen.

Do we hear and see what the Lord has done for us?
