“Suffer...Consider…”

Blessings folk!

Paul continues to instruct Timothy.
Some hard things.
Read the passage asking the “reporter questions”.
Who?
What?
When?
Where?
Why?
How?
Give heed to the initial command and the three examples that he gives.
Then, note the last instruction.

2 Timothy: 3-7
3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.
5 Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules.
6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

What is the instruction?
Suffer hardship…

With Who?
… me/Paul…

How?
Three examples

As a good soldier of Christ Jesus

  • no active service soldier is entangles with the affairs of everyday life
  • please the one who enlisted

As an athlete
  • compete
  • compete according to the rules

As a farmer
  • hard-working
  • ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops

What is the last instruction?
Consider what I say…

What is the conclusion...the exhortation?
The Lord will give you understanding.

Press on in suffering.
Be prepared for it, in the Lord.
Consider the examples given...the soldier...the athlete...the farmer.

It is the Lord who gives understanding.
Seek Him.
