“Ships…”

“Ships…”

Blessings folk!

Let us look a little closer at what the word tells us about Jehoshaphat.

The King had peace, but, this does not mean that he was correct in all he did.

Read…

2 Ch 20:35-37

After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah allied himself with Ahaziah king of Israel.
He acted wickedly in so doing.

So he allied himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish,
and they made the ships in Ezion-geber.

Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the LORD has destroyed your works.”
So the ships were broken and could not go to Tarshish.

Jehoshaphat allied himself with Ahaziah, king of Israel.

An act of wickedness.

Why would an alliance between the King of Judah and King of Israel be wickedness?

Because the Kings of Israel…all of them…acted wickedly before the Lord and propagated a false religion and false relationship with God.

The “northern kingdom” was false Judaism.

Jehoshaphat “cut a deal” to build some ships for a purpose. (We will see tomorrow the purpose.)

Something stopped the alliance.
What?

The Word of the Lord!
The Word of the Lord through the prophet Eliezer.
The Lord expressed His displeasure with the alliance.
Apparently Jehoshaphat had not consulted the Lord.

What was the outcome?
The Lord destroyed the works of Jehoshaphat related to the ships.
The ships were broken.
They could not perform their function.

How were they destroyed?
Who destroyed them?
We will check a cross-reference tomorrow for clarification.

For now…
Seek the Lord.
Consult the Lord.
Know the mind of the Lord in a matter.
Listen to the Word of the Lord
- Through Scripture
- Through the Spirit
- Through His Body

Fear not.
Be bold.
Be brave.
Stand strong in the Spirit.
