“Give Thanks - His Love Endures Forever“

Blessings folk!

Thanksgiving.

A day when even the world (at least in the united States) acknowledge the need to “give thanks”.

Of course, the problem is that for “thanks” to be given there must be a recipient.

Here the world is unclear.

Some “give thanks” to “nature”.
Some “give thanks” to “gaia”.
Some “give thanks” to…
The list could go on.

It is clear to Whom thanks goes.

A couple of Sundays ago one of my grandchildren ask me a great question.
“How do you know God is real?”

The book of Romans in the Bible tells us.
It declares that there is an inward testimony within every person that God is real.
It declares that there is an outward testimony of creation that God is real.

Rom 1:18-20

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

because that which is known about God is
evident within them;
for God made it evident to them.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes,
His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen,
being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

The wrath of God is revealed against ungodliness and unrighteousness, especially those who suppress the truth.

Why?

Because God has made it evident within them.

Every person knows that God exist.
He has made it evident within them.

Then, creation testifies.
Give close heed to the last verse.

Since the creation of the world…so the world was created…it did not evolve.

Since then…
God’s invisible attributes…
God’s eternal power…
God’s divine nature…the Authorized translation is much better…”Godhead”…
All have been clearly seen being understood through what has been made.

Therefore, man is without excuse.
There is an inward testimony of evidence God has placed.
There is the outward testimony of creation.

So, man can not say “I do not believe there is a God” or “God does not exist”.
They know.
They are without excuse.

They simply refuse to honor and give thanks to God.

The next verse confirms…

Rom 1:21

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks,
but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Refusal to honor God or to give thanks to God leads to futile speculations and a foolish, darkened heart.

Rom 1:22
Professing to be wise, they became fools,

Fools who think they are wise.

Such is the norm in the world.

More could and should be said.

For today, give thanks to the Lord.

Use Psalm 136…

PSALM 136

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
4 to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
5 who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
6 who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
7 who made the great lights–
His love endures forever.
8 the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
9 the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.
10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
His love endures forever.
11 and brought Israel out from among them
His love endures forever.
12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
His love endures forever.
13 to him who divided the Red Sea asunder
His love endures forever.
14 and brought Israel through the midst of it,
His love endures forever.
15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;
His love endures forever.
16 to him who led his people through the desert,
His love endures forever.
17 who struck down great kings,
His love endures forever.
18 and killed mighty kings–
His love endures forever.
19 Sihon king of the Amorites
His love endures forever.
20 and Og king of Bashan–
His love endures forever.
21 and gave their land as an inheritance,
His love endures forever.
22 an inheritance to his servant Israel;
His love endures forever.
23 to the One who remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.
24 and freed us from our enemies,
His love endures forever.
25 and who gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.
26 Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.
