Ezra 9:7
“Since the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great guilt,
and on account of our iniquities we,
our kings and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands,
to the sword,
to captivity and
to plunder and
to open shame,
as it is this day.

Iniquities and guilt.
Given into the hands of other kings.
Given to the sword…captivity…plunder…shame.

Now, the next verse.

Ezra 9:8
“But now for a brief moment grace has been shown from the LORD our God,
to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a peg in His holy place,
that our God may enlighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our bondage.

But now, grace had been shown by the Lord…for a brief moment.

How was this grace manifested?
A remnant of the people of the Lord had escaped captivity.
All had been set free from the Medo-Persian (previously Babylonian) land.
A few had decided to walk in the freedom and liberty and return - a remnant.
The Lord had given them “a peg” in His holy place.
A place to “hang” in His land.

Why?
So that God could enlighten their eyes.
So that God could grant a little reviving in their bondage.

God desires to enlighten us.
God desires to set at liberty those bound…”to vive”…to grant life.
God desires to revive those who have experienced His life in the past.

Remember this Word of the Lord…

Eph 1:18-19a
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened,
so that you will know what is the hope of His calling,
what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

Lord, enlighten us.
Lord, You are our hope.
Lord, may we know Your calling.
Lord, may we know the riches of the glory of Your inheritance.
Lord, may we know the surpassing greatness of Your power toward believers.

Enlightenment.
Hope.
Calling.
Inheritance.
Power.
