“Like Father”

Today’s reading:
Matthew 5:38-48
Luke 6:27-36

To be like Father in heaven.

We think that is impossible.
We think that it is not something to be considered.
But the Lord says otherwise.

We see in these verses “so that you may be like your Father in heaven”...interesting.

What about Father is being considered here?
The fact that He causes the sun to rise on the evil and good.
He send rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

We are to do likewise.

We are to love.
Love those who love us.
Love those who hate us.

How is this manifested?
Several commands are stated.

• do not resist the evildoer
• turn the other cheek
• if sued, give
• if forced to go, go further
• give to the one who ask
• do not turn away the one who needs to borrow
• love your enemies
• do good to those who hate you
• pray for those who mistreat you
• treat others in the way you would want them to treat you

It is in this way that we are perfect as Father is perfect.
He is merciful.
Show mercy.
He is kind to the ungrateful.
Be kind.
Your reward will be great.
You will be sons of the Most High.
