“Discipline! Why?”

“Discipline! Why?”

Blessings folk!

Flowing out of the truths related to the “great cloud of witnesses” who lived by faith, the Lord is speaking of discipline.

We saw some yesterday, now more.

Heb 12:8-11

But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers,
then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them;
shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?

For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them,
but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.

All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful;
yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

A couple of things for today.

First, if you are without the discipline of the Lord, then it is because you are not His son.
You are illegitimate.
You may be religious.
You may be good in the eyes of the world.
You may do good works.
Yet, you are not in relationship with the Lord.
If you are His, He will discipline.

The Lord gives the example of our earthly fathers.
They discipline.
We respect it.
How much more so the discipline of the Father of spirits?
It is in Him that we live.

Second, there is purpose.
The Lord disciplines for purpose.
He disciplines us for our good.

Why?
Another purpose…think of this.
That we may share His holiness.

Again…
The Lord disciplines us that we may share His holiness.

That is something.
That is amazing.
That is something worthy of praising Him.
