“They Had Not Gained Any Insight”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was on the mountain praying.
The disciples were in the boat straining.
Jesus decides to go ahead of them.

Now…read, watch…is there a phrase that grabs your attention?

Mar 6:48-52
Seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them.

But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;

for they all saw Him and were terrified.
But immediately He spoke with them and said to them,
“Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid.”

Then He got into the boat with them, and the wind stopped; and they were utterly astonished,

for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves,
but their heart was hardened.

Did Jesus intend to pass them by so as to not terrify them?
Did Jesus intend to pass them by so as to reveal some things about struggling in the flesh?

Regardless, they all saw Him walking on the sea.
They were terrified supposing it was a ghost.
They cried out!

Jesus immediately responded…
Take courage.
Be not afraid.
It is I.

Words of comfort, courage, and correction.

The wind was still pressing against the boat.

Jesus entered the boat with them and the wind stopped.

They were astonished.

Why?

This is the thought that had my attention today…they had not gained any…any!…insight from the incident of the loaves.

They gained no insight from Jesus multiply their resources to meet the need.
They gained no insight from the leftovers.

Why?

Their hearts were hardened.

Wow.

After being with Jesus…
After seeing all that had been done to this point…
Their hearts were still hardened.

A hard heart will…

  • blind
  • deceive
  • misdirect
  • lie
  • bring doubt
  • metastasize into a religious spirit

Be not blind to the ways of the Lord.
