Jesus was answering the “set-up” question of the Pharisees…
”is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
Read again…
Mar 10:1-9
Getting up, He went from there to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan; crowds gathered around Him again, and, according to His custom, He once more began to teach them.
Some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife.
And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”
They said,
“Moses permitted a man TO WRITE A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY.”
But Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.
“But from the beginning of creation, God MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE.
“FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER,
AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.
“What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
Jesus stated that Moses (the Law) allowed divorce because of the hardness of their hearts.
Jesus then gave an example to explain.
An example that totally undermines liberal theology.
An example that negates the wisdom of man that is taught today.
“From the beginning…”
Jesus takes them back to the beginning.
Jesus acknowledges that there was a beginning.
A beginning that consisted of “creation”.
Jesus believed in creation.
Jesus believed that “God made”.
Jesus knew that He was the One Who spoke all into existence - John 1.
This is no small thing.
Man has many “explanations” outside of God’s ex nihilo creation.
All are wrong.
Jesus verified.
God created.
God made man.
God made them male and female.
God designed male and female.
God made male and female to be together…the man shall leave father/mother.
The two shall become one flesh.
God does this.
God joins them.
Man is not to separate them.
Reflect…
God created…man says no.
God made man male/female…man says no.
God designed male/female to be together…man says no.
God joins together as one flesh…man says no.
Who will you believe?
