“‘Good Friday’"

Blessings folk!

Ok.

Time for the seasonal, yearly sidebar.

Why?

Because the Word says we are to accurately handle the Word of Truth.

2Ti 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

Today is “Good Friday”.
Here is the truth.

Jesus did not die on “Good Friday”.

Does it matter?

It is nothing to separate fellowship over, but, we are to accurately handle the Truth.

Answer this.

How can the Passover Lamb, Jesus, partake of the Passover meal at the same time He died?

Here is the simple Truth of the Word.

The Passover Lamb was to be killed on Nisan 14 (a date) “between the evenings” - at 3 p.m.
This would be Wednesday of that week on our current calendar.

Exo 12:6
'And it hath become a charge to you, until the fourteenth day of this month, and the whole assembly of the company of Israel have slaughtered it between the evenings;

Remember, the Hebrew day begins at sunset.

The meal that Jesus ate with His disciples was at the beginning of Nisan 14…sundown.
It was not the Passover meal proper.
It was simply a meal.
All that happened during the meal and up to Jesus’ death took place on Nisan 14…the Passover, the Day of Preparation.

Jesus died at 3 pm, the Passover Lamb slain for the world.
They hurried to get Him off the cross because the next day was “the Sabbath”.
But, this was not the weekly Sabbath.
It was the Sabbath of the first day of the Feast of Unleavened bread which began on Nisan 15.
That first day was a holy convocation - a sabbath.
(This is where the “good friday” error usually occurs.)

Lev 23:6-7
‘Then on the fifteenth day of the same month there is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.

‘On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work.

So…the chronology…

Jesus is entombed at the beginning of Nisan 15…our Thursday.
Evening/morning - day 1. Thursday.
Evening/morning - day 2. Friday.
Evening/morning - day 3. Saturday.

Thereby is fulfilled the Word of the Lord Himself when He said…

Mat 12:39-40

But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;

for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Jesus said three days/three nights.
Not portions thereof.
Complete days.
Complete nights.

At some point after the third day…at sundown which begins Sunday…the Lord was resurrected.

This actually fulfills perfectly another feast which is rarely mention…the Feast of Firstfruits.

Now, I know folk get nervous over such.

I had a respected Bible teacher excoriate me over this a few years ago.
Rather than address the Scripture, he started quoting “church tradition”.

Why are we so fear-filled and defensive over the truths of the Word.

Here is the bottom line.

If we can not be trusted with the truths of the non-essentials, why will the world listen to us about the essentials?

Know the Truth.
Live the Truth.
Speak the Truth.
The Truth will set us free!
