“Error of Balaam - 31”

Blessings folk!

Phinehas had just executed the couple who were blatantly sinning before the Lord and the people.

Read what the Lord said about it…

Num 25:10-13

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest,
has turned away My wrath from the sons of Israel in that he was jealous with My jealousy among them, so that I did not destroy the sons of Israel in My jealousy.

“Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give him My covenant of peace;

and it shall be for him and his descendants after him, a covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel.’”

Phinehas had turned away the wrath of the Lord.
How?
He was jealous with the Lord’s jealousy.

Remember, the Lord had told them that they were to have no other God.

Exo 20:3-5

“You shall have no other gods before Me.

“You shall not make for yourself an idol,
or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath
or in the water under the earth.

“You shall not worship them or serve them;
for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children,
on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Phinehas was not jealous in his flesh.
He was filled with the Lord’s jealousy.

Because of his actions, the Lord gave him His covenant of peace.
On him.
On his descendants.
A covenant of perpetual priesthood.

Then this.
He made atonement for the people!

His deed covered the sins of the people.
God’s wrath was averted.

Do we live in the jealousy of the Lord?
Do we boldly act for/in Him?
