“David Grew Steadily Stronger”

Blessings folk!

Abner had petitioned for a cessation of the fight.
“Shall the sword devour forever?”

Joab agreed.

Abner continued to flee all night.

Joab also returned home.

The “sporting” battle had been costly.

2 Sa 2:30-32
Then Joab returned from following Abner; when he had gathered all the people together, nineteen of David’s servants besides Asahel were missing.

But the servants of David had struck down many of Benjamin and Abner’s men,
so that three hundred and sixty men died.

And they took up Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb which was in Bethlehem.
Then Joab and his men went all night until the day dawned at Hebron.

Twenty of David’s servants had died.
Abner had lost three hundred and sixty men of Benjamin.

Yet, this was just the beginning.

The first verse of the next chapter states…

2 Sa 3:1
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David;
and David grew steadily stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker continually.

Long war…

  • Between the house of Saul and the house of David.
  • Between the false king and the true king.
  • Between the false throne and the true throne.
  • Between a kingdom divided and a kingdom united.

David, the true king and kingdom, grew stronger.
The house of Saul, the false kingdom, grew weaker continually.

Note that attaining the kingdom and reaching the fullness of the kingdom was a process!

Much of what is occurring in the church today is pictured here.
The true organism of the Body of Christ, the true church, is growing stronger.
The “organizational” church, the “professsing-yet-not-saved” religionists, continue to grow in weakness.

Of which are you?
