“Upon This Rock”

Blessings folk!

Jesus asked the disciples a question.
“Who do the people say I am?”

They had various answers.
Peter finally said “the Christ…”.

Matthew gives a more detailed account…

Mat 16:15-20
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

“I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church;
and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”

Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.

Peter declares that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the Living God”. He was correct.

Jesus tells Peter that this understanding…this revelation…did not come by flesh and blood.
No one had told Peter.
No one had taught Peter.
Peter had not created this understanding.

No.
It was by Father in heaven that Peter knew and understood Who Jesus was/is.

Again, not by the understanding of man…flesh and blood.
By Father.

Jesus then declares to Peter that upon this rock He would build His church.

This rock?
Not Peter as some say.
But upon the declaration of faith…”thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God”.

The Church is those who have professed such.

Hades will not overpower the church.

…to be continued…
