“You Have Not Come…”

Blessings folk!

So, back to Hebrews after a short side-trip to get more insight into Esau.

Read again the Esau passage, then note what is said afterwards.

Heb 12:14-19

Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.

See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God;
that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;

that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau,
who sold his own birthright for a single meal.

For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing,
he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire,
and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,

and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.

We are to:

  • pursue peace with all men
  • pursue sanctification
  • see to it that no one comes short of the grace of God
  • see to it that no bitterness springs up causing trouble
  • see to it that there be no immoral or godless person…like Esau

Why? Because we have not come to a mountain that can be touched…to a blazing fire…to darkness…gloom…whirlwind…blast of a trumpet…sound of words that caused those who heard to be no further word.

This is all what happened on Mt. Sinai…Exodus 18, 19, 20.
This is a picture of the Law.

We have not come to this.

We have come to something else.
Something different.
Something that enables us to live in a different way.
