“Abram Believed, God Reckoned”

Blessings folk!

Abram wondered who his offspring would be.
He knew what God had promised.
He knew what God has said.
Still, it had yet to happen.
He had brought his concerns before the Lord…after the Lord had told him to fear not.

We continue…reread the verse 1-3 which we have already covered, then the others…

Gen 15:1-6

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying,
“Do not fear, Abram,
I am a shield to you;
Your reward shall be very great.”

Abram said, “O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

And Abram said, “Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir.”

Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir.”

And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

Eliezar would not be his heir.
He was not heir of the Promise.

Abram’s heir would come from his own body (an important point for later on&hellipWinking.

God then confirmed His Covenant Word with Abram.
God took him outside.
Had the Lord appeared to Abram? Had they been inside?
Or did the Lord lead Abram by the Spirit to go outside?

Regardless of manner, the Lord had Abram look to the heavens and count the stars, if he could count them.
This speaks to the large number that is visible in a dark night in the country.
So would be Abram’s descendants.
They would be many.

Abram’s response?
He had two choices…

  • believe
  • not believe

He believed.
He believed in the Word of the Lord.

God’s response?
He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

Abram believed the Word of the Lord.
The Lord counted him as righteous…right…forgiven.

Are you?
