“Jesus Reproached Them”

“Jesus Reproached Them”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had appeared to Mary Magdalene.
The “12” refused to believe her report.

Jesus appeared to the two disciple traveling to Emmaus.
The “12” refused their report.

Read what Mark writes next.
We will read the entire thought and look at it over a couple of days.

Mar 16:14-18

Afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table;
and He reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart,
because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen.

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

“He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved;
but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

“These signs will accompany those who have believed:
in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;

they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Jesus Himself appeared to them.
The door was locked.
No problem…

John 20:19
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together,
with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders,
Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

It does not seem that Jesus knocked on the door and entered in a traditional manner.

He appeared.

He reproached them…”reproached” is a strong word.
He upbraided them.
He chewed them out.
He exhorted them.
He corrected them.

Why?

Because they had not believed the reports that He was risen from the dead.

Jesus had told them ahead to time…

Mat 16:21
From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem,
and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed,
and be raised up on the third day.

He had told them.
Reports had verified.

Yet, they did not believe.

Why?

Unbelief.
Hardness of heart.
Refusal to believe those who had seen/experienced.

Nothing is new.

The same occurs today with many who profess to believe.

Many/most do not believe.

They say they believe, yet they deny much of the Word.
They deny by word.
They deny by deed.

They either have a false belief.
Or…
They need to be exhorted in belief!
