“Be Quiet, Come Out Of Him”

Blessings folk!

It is the Sabbath.
Jesus is teaching in a synagogue in Capernaum.
The people are amazed at His teaching.
He teaches with power and authority, unlike the scribes.

All seems well.
But, we know that the enemy will not lie quiet for long…

Mar 1:23-28
Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

saying, “What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”

And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”

Throwing him into convulsions,
the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.

They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this?
A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee.

An unclean spirit spoke forth, using a man in the synagogue that was his vessel.
Yes, a man in the synagogue had an unclean spirit.
Many who profess to be religious have unclean spirits…demons.

The demon was questioning and proclaiming the truth.
He wanted to know why Jesus was there then.
He wanted to know if “now” was the time that Jesus would destroy them.

Note, the demon acknowledges that Jesus will destroy them…at some point.

The demon then declared the truth that Jesus is the Holy One of God.

Jesus rebuked him.

Why?

Jesus did not need the confirmation/affirmation of demons, especially outside of the timeline of Father.

Father would determine when/where Jesus would be revealed, not a demon.

Jesus told the demon to be quiet.
Jesus told the demon to come out of the man.

The demon, in an act of defiance, used the man to cry out with a loud voice.
The demon sought to “put up a fight” and embarrass the man by throwing him into convulsions.
But, the demon came out.
By the Word of the Lord.

The people had no problem in recognizing what had happened.
A man had been set free of an unclean spirit.
They believed.

The people were amazed by the authority of the Lord.
A demon obeyed Him.

We, especially in the western church, are too enamored with our “enlightenment” and “understanding” to believe that such still occurs.

It does.
Our battle is not against flesh and blood…

Eph 6:12
For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.

As we have seen repeatedly, we are powerless because we reject the truth of the Lord.

In the name and power of the Lord we are to set the captive free.

Do it.
