“Against the Holy One of Israel”

Blessings folk!

As Hezekiah prayed, the Lord heard.
As Hezekiah prayed, the Lord spoke - to Isaiah the prophet.
Isaiah went to Hezekiah with the Word of the Lord.

It is a lengthy Word, therefore we take a bite at a time.
Read carefully.
Pay attention as to who is speaking to whom.

2Ki 19:20-22

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah saying, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘Because you have prayed to Me about Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you.’

“This is the word that the LORD has spoken against him:
‘She has despised you and mocked you,
The virgin daughter of Zion;
She has shaken her head behind you,
The daughter of Jerusalem!

‘Whom have you reproached and blasphemed?
And against whom have you raised your voice,
And haughtily lifted up your eyes?
Against the Holy One of Israel!

Isaiah is speaking to Hezekiah.
The Lord had heard his prayer…because he had prayed about Sennacherib.

Then, the Word of the Lord.
The Word was spoken against “him”…

Not “him” Hezekiah.
“Him” Sennacherib, King of Assyria.
Very important! Happy

Remember, the King and his minions had been mocking Jerusalem.
The letter was likely a written mocking-threat version of what had been recorded as being said.

God now says that the daughter of Jerusalem, the virgin daughter of Zion, despises and mocks Assyria. She has shaken her head behind him.

Then the Lord ask the King of Assyria questions…remember, this is the prophet Isaiah speaking the Word of the Lord to Hezekiah, King of Judah, a Word against Assyria.

Who had Sennacherib reproached and blasphemed?
Against whom had he raised His voice?

Against the Holy One of Israel!

The Lord was telling Hezekiah that He had heard.
The Lord was telling Hezekiah that a Word spoken against him/them was a word spoken against the Lord himself.

An encouragement to the King.

As well as to us.

Fear not when others speak against you.
They are speaking against the Lord.
He will take care of it.
