“Affliction”

Blessings folk!

Another stanza in Psalm 119 - Teth.

This one is challenging.

Psalm 119:65-68
Teth
65 You have dealt well with your servant,     O Lord, according to your word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge,     for I believe in your commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,     but now I keep your word.
68 You are good and do good;     teach me your statutes.

The Psalmist affirms that the Lord has dealt well with him.
The Lord dealt with him according to His Word.
So, there must have been some dealing.

How did the Lord deal with him?
From this passage...and verses to come...we can discern.
Affliction.
The Lord brought affliction upon the Psalmist.

The Psalmist acknowledges that the Lord is good and that He does good.
He asks the Lord to:

  • teach good judgment and knowledge
  • teach His statutes

The Psalmist declares that he believes in the Lord’s commandments.
He states he now keeps His Word.

Before the affliction he did not do so.
He was astray.

The Lord will use affliction to bring us back to Him and to His Word.

Know these truths.
The Lord is good.
The Lord does good.
The Lord will use affliction to lead us back from straying.
The Lord will deal well with His servants, according to His Word.
The Lord will teach judgment and knowledge, if we seek.

Call upon Him.
He is faithful.
Trust Him.
