Fear the Lord…

Fear the Lord…

Blessings folk!

We saw previously that the imported people upon the land did not fear the Lord God.
The Lord therefore sent lions upon them.
Yep, lions.

What was the response of the people?

They sent word to their master, the King of Assyria…

2 Ki 17:26-28

So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying,
“The nations whom you have carried away into exile in the cities of Samaria do not know the custom of the god of the land; so he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them because they do not know the custom of the god of the land.”

Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying,
“Take there one of the priests whom you carried away into exile and let him go and live there; and let him teach them the custom of the god of the land.”

So one of the priests whom they had carried away into exile from Samaria came and lived at Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

The King of Assyria commanded that one of the captured priest be sent back.
He was to live there.
He was to teach them the “custom of the god of the land,”

The priest taught them how they should fear the Lord.

What is really interesting about this is the priest would have been from the northern kingdom - not a “real priest”.
The “Judiasm” of the northern kingdom was fraudulent and reprobate. It was not true faith.

Still, the priest knew they were to fear the Lord.
He taught them to do so.

All well?

What do you think?
We will see in the next verses…
