“Your Word: A Lamp/Light”

Blessings folk!

Look at the intensity of the Psalmist.
What has he decided to do?
Why?
On what did he depend?

As we have seen in previous stanzas, the Word of the Lord is described as:
  • Ordinances
  • Law
  • Precepts
  • Testimonies
  • Statutes

Psa 119:105-112

Nun.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

I have sworn and I will confirm it,
That I will keep Your righteous ordinances.

I am exceedingly afflicted;
Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.

O accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD,
And teach me Your ordinances.

My life is continually in my hand,
Yet I do not forget Your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me,
Yet I have not gone astray from Your precepts.

I have inherited Your testimonies forever,
For they are the joy of my heart.

I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes
Forever, even to the end.

The Psalmist:

  • Had sworn the Word of the Lord
  • Had confirmed the Word of the Lord
    • So to keep His righteous ordinances
  • Was exceedingly afflicted
  • Ask the Lord to revive him
    • According to His Word
  • His life was continually in danger
    • Yet he did not forget the Law
  • The wicked laid snares for him
    • Yet he had not gone astray from the precepts of the Lord
  • He had inherited the testimonies of the Lord….forever
    • They, the testimonies of the Lord, are the joy of his heart
  • He inclined his heart to perform the statute of the Lord
    • Forever
    • To the end

Is this our attitude?
What illumines your path?
By what word do you live?
What is the joy of your heart?

The word of man?
The Word of the Lord?
