“To the Test…”

Blessings Folk!

Satan/the devil/the tempter was tempting Jesus.

Jesus had responded with the Word.

The Word is a major defense in the life of the Believer.

The tempter then switched tactics.

He enticed the Lord to do something that would require angelic intervention.

Mat 4:5-6

Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,

and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,
‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU’;
and
‘ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP,
SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’”

Note that the devil was now quoting the Word.
He will do that.
He will use/pervert the Word of Truth to kill/steal/destroy.

Look at the “all caps”.
Theses are quotes from the Word - the Old Testament.

The tempter knows the Word.
He was referencing this…

Psa 91:11-12

For He will give His angels charge concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.

They will bear you up in their hands,
That you do not strike your foot against a stone.

Jesus’ response?

Mat 4:7
Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written,
‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.’”

As in the first time, Jesus did not argue the validity and Truth of the statement the deceiver spoke.

Jesus responded with the Word…

Deu 6:16
“You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested Him at Massah.

Jesus did give fuller understanding.

What the devil had said was correct.
But, we are not to put the Lord our God to the test.

Such would be sin.

Jesus knew it.
Satan knew it.
Now, we do.

Do not put the Lord to the test.
Rest in Him.
Rejoice in Him.
