Mark 1:1-3
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

As it is written in the prophets,
Behold, I send my messenger before thy face,
which shall prepare thy way before thee.

The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Mark confirms that the prophets spoke of that which had occurred.

Mark 1:1-3
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
“BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU,
WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY;

THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS,
‘MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD,
MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.’”

This confirms the prophecy as coming through Isaiah…

Isa 40:3-5
A voice is calling,
“Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness;
Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.

“Let every valley be lifted up,
And every mountain and hill be made low;
And let the rough ground become a plain,
And the rugged terrain a broad valley;

Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed,
And all flesh will see it together;
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

A messenger would be sent.
A voice would call.
A voice that would clear the way for the Lord.
A voice from the wilderness.
A voice that would make ready the way of the Lord.

The Lord informs His people.

Amo 3:7
Surely the Lord GOD does nothing
Unless He reveals His secret counsel
To His servants the prophets.

He had told them that one would come.

He has told us that one will come.

Mal 4:5
“Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD.
