“Keep Away…”

Blessings folk!

Paul continued his instruction to the Thessalonians…and us.

2 Th 3:6
Now we command you,
brothers and sisters,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that you keep away from every brother or sister who leads a disorderly life and not one in accordance with the tradition which you received from us.

Note this is a command.
Note that he is speaking to “brothers and sisters” - true believers.

The command was/is in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul had this command from the Lord, by the power of the Lord.

What is the command?
To keep away from every brother or sister who leads a disorderly life.

What is a “disorderly life”?
Paul tells us.
A life not in accordance with the tradition which he had taught them.

Note who was “disorderly”.
Brothers and sisters.
They were believers, yet they were doing something “disorderly”.

The other brother and sisters were to “keep away”, or remain “aloof” as Titus says.

Not for the sake of punishment per se, but for the sake of restoring them to true fellowship with the Body.

This is a bit of insight into “church discipline”.

Matthew 18, 1 Corinthians and Titus reveal more.

We are not to be rude.
We are not to be mean.
We are not to be arrogant.
We are not to be piously self-righteous.
We are to confront one another with the truth.
If someone refuses to turn from their “disorderliness…sin”, then we remain aloof.
We keep away.
