“Let Our Leaders…”

“Let Our Leaders…”

Blessings folk!

The people had agreed with the corrective word of Ezra.
They acknowledged it was their duty to confess, repent and obey the commandments of the Lord.

But…there were a couple of issues…

Ezr 10:12-14

Then all the assembly replied with a loud voice,
“That’s right! As you have said, so it is our duty to do.

“But there are many people; it is the rainy season and we are not able to stand in the open. Nor can the task be done in one or two days, for we have transgressed greatly in this matter.

“Let our leaders represent the whole assembly and let all those in our cities who have married foreign wives come at appointed times, together with the elders and judges of each city, until the fierce anger of our God on account of this matter is turned away from us.”

There were many people.
It was the rainy season.
They were unable to stand in the open.
It would take more than a day or two.
They had transgressed greatly in the matter.

So, the people offered an option.

Let their leaders represent the whole assembly.
Let those who had married foreign wives set up appointments.
Let the elders and judges in each city decide.

Let it be done until the fierce anger of God concerning the matter was turned away from them.

A reasonable suggestion and process.
The people were serious and were repentant.

May we be likewise.
