“Deaf and Dumb Due to Doubt”

Blessings folk!

So, Zacharias had learned he was to have a son.
He had learned much about the son…what he would do.

What was Zacharias’ response?

Luk 1:18-20
Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”
The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.
“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

How will I know this for certain?
Seems to be an innocent response.
(Is really interesting when juxtaposed with Mary’s response later.)

Zacaharias’ “doubt” was not that of innocent inquiry.
It was something more.
How do I know?
Because of the response of the Lord through Gabriel.

First, Gabriel says “Hey! I stand before God…” (my translation) LOL
Gabriel has been sent from God with a direct Word from the Lord.
A direct Word of good news.

How dare Zacharias doubt.
He did not believe the Word.

Due to Zacharias’ doubt/question/unbelief he would be silent until fulfillment.
Unable to speak.
Also, apparently unable to hear…as we will see later.

Deaf and dumb due to doubt.

Describes many professing believers today.
Unbelief costs us Power and Presence in the Kingdom.

Believe.
All things will be fulfilled in their proper time.
