“Self-control: A Fruit of the Spirit”

Blessings folk!

We have been examining the fruit of the Spirit.
Again, note the singular.
Fruit of the Spirit.
Not fruits.

All that is the Spirit is within each Believer.
The Spirit releases His gifts as He desires.
The fruit is available for all to walk in.
An important distinction.
The fruit of the Spirit and gifts of the Spirit are not the same.

Now, the last one.
The one that is easy for all…sure!!
Self-control.
The Greek word communicates the idea that one has mastery over personal desires and passions.

Gal 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

There is no “self-control” in the flesh.
Self-control can only occur in the Spirit.
Self-control only happens when we die to self and live to Him.

The desires and passions are not eliminated from our lives.
But, in the Spirit, we master them.
They have their proper place.
We master the desires/passions.
We control them.
They do not control us.

Walk in self-control.
Walk controlled by the Spirit.
