“No”

Blessings folk!

Abraham desired for Ishmael to live before the Lord.

Gen 17:18

And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before You!”

There is more to this than on the surface.

The next verse reveals why.

Gen 17:19

But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

Why was there more to it?

Because God said “no”.

Apparently Ishmael wanted what he could see in the natural to be the bearer of the Covenant.

A child yet seen…
A child yet conceived…
This was to be the child of the Promise, the child of the Covenant.

God’s response was simple.
No.

Do not be surprised by such.
