“Avoid Worldly and Empty Chatter…”

Blessings folk

We have seen that we have been instructed to be diligent in presenting ourselves approved as workmen accurately handling the Word of Truth.

The next verse begins with “but”...and as we have learn…”but” is important...

2 Timothy 2:15-18
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
16 But
avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,
17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.

We are told to avoid worldly and empty chatter.
Why?
It leads to ungodliness...further ungodliness.
It does not edify.
It does not encourage.
It does not exhort.

Such conversation literally spreads like gangrene.

How different would our lives be if we avoided worldly/empty chatter?
Quieter, I suspect.

How different would the Body of Christ be?

Paul gives an example of what occurs with such chatter.
Hymenaeus and Philetus had gone astray from the truth.
In what area?
They said that the resurrection had already taken place.
Apparently this conclusions was reached with the foundation of worldly/empty chatter.
They were upsetting the faith of many.

The fruit of such chatter is serious.

Let us avoid such talk.
Let us speak the Truth of the Lord.

Then, watch what happens.
