"Out of Egypt"

“Out of Egypt”

Blessings folk!

The magi had left.

Herod was furious.
The magi were to report back to him.
They were to reveal the location of the Child.
The Lord had warned them, in a dream, to return not to Herod and to go home another way.
They did.

We see things in the birth narrative of Jesus that many think belong to a past time…
Dreams.
Angels.
Difficult things in a time of rejoicing.

These belong not to just the past.

Mat 2:13-15

Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.”

So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt.

He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON.”

The Lord warned Joseph.
By angel.
In a dream.

Yes, angel.
Yes, dream.
Not just for “a time past in Bible days” as is often assumed.

Joseph obeyed immediately.
Apparently he arose that night…”while it was still night”…and took the Child and His mother and fled to Egypt.

Why?
Herod sought to kill the Child.

Why Egypt?
To fulfill the prophetic Word of the Lord…

Hos 11:1

When Israel was a youth I loved him,
And out of Egypt I called My son.

Angels.
Dream.
Prophetic Word.
Immediate obedience.

They remained in Egypt until Herod’s death.
They awaited the Word of instruction from the Lord.

So should we.
