Jesus is dead and buried.
After the Sabbath...the weekly Sabbath...as it began to dawn, women approached the grave.

A severe earthquake had occurred.
Not just a basic earthquake.
A severe one.
Apparently an angel of the Lord caused it.
The angel…
  • descended from heaven
  • rolled away the stone covering the tomb entrance
  • sat upon the stone
  • appearance was like lightning, bright white clothing

The guards saw...shook with fear...then passed out...became like dead men.

The angel spoke to the women…
  • do not be afraid
  • He is not here
  • He is risen
  • Go, tell His disciples
  • He is going ahead of you as He said to Galilee
  • There you will see Him

They left quickly with fear and great joy.

Ya reck’n?

Luke tell us that there were two angels.
This is not a biblical inconsistency.
There were two.
One spoke, as Matthew said

The women went and told the disciples.
The disciples did not believe them..thought it nonsense...even though Jesus had told them this would happen.

Can you imagine the emotion?

Peter and John run to see.
They find the tomb empty, yet they still did not understand.
Eventually they all went to their own homes.

Mary, wept, wondering what happened to her Lord.

Where was He laid...taken to?

Soon they would understand.

They had been told repeatedly.
Now they would see.
