“Do You Not Remember?”

Blessings folk!

The Thessalonians were confused and disturbed about the coming of the Lord and our gathering together to Him.

Remember what the Lord through Paul said to them.
Do not be shaken from your composure.
Do not be disturbed.
Do not allow a letter as if from us or a spirit or a message deceive you into thinking that the Day of the Lord has already occurred.

Paul then told them to remember.
There would be some precursors to the coming of that Day.
THE Apostasy comes first.
THE man of lawlessness would be revealed.
Neither had occurred.
Neither has yet to occur.

I am always struck by what Paul says next…

2 Th 2:5
Do you not remember that while I was still with you,
I was telling you these things?

Paul had told them about these things.
They already knew.
Yet, they were believing something else someone had told them…apparently that the Day of the Lord had already happened.

Paul was only with them three sabbaths…a very short time.
Yet, he was delving into things that most Believers today know little about.
Paul considered the return of the Lord and the Day of the Lord to be foundational.

Act 17:1-3
Now when they had traveled through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

And according to Paul’s custom, he visited them,
and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.”

Some believed.
The Jewish religious leadership then rose up and attacked Paul.

Act 17:5
But the Jews, becoming jealous and taking along some wicked men from the marketplace, formed a mob and set the city in an uproar; and they attacked the house of Jason and were seeking to bring them out to the people.

The brothers sent Paul away to avoid danger.

Act 17:10
The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea,
and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.

There is much that we should be teaching and learning that we avoid.
Such should not be so.

Proclaim the good news of the gospel.
Proclaim the good news of the return of the Lord.
