“Bore A Grudge”

Blessings folk!

Yes, the account is heart-breaking.
A difficult scene to watch.
A family torn by deceit and pursuit of personal desire.
Much centered around basic needs…food…game and beans.
Much centered around pursuit of power, position, status.

Nothing changes.

Let us see how this episode of Esau’s life concludes (there is more later).

Gen 27:39-41

Then Isaac his father answered and said to him,
“Behold, away from the fertility of the earth shall be your dwelling,
And away from the dew of heaven from above.

“By your sword you shall live,
And your brother you shall serve;
But it shall come about when you become restless,
That you will break his yoke from your neck.”

So Esau bore a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near;
then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

Isaac basically pronounced to Esau the opposite of the blessing that he pronounced to Jacob.
Esau would be “away from the fertility of the earth”…he shall dwell there.
Esau would be “away from the dew of heaven…”
Esau would live by the sword.
Esau would serve his brother (Jacob).
Esau would be restless.
Esau would break Jacob’s yoke…he would leave.

Esau’s response?
He bore a grudge.
Understandable in the flesh.

Esau’s plan?
He determined that upon his father’s death he would kill Jacob.

Again, what a lovely family.
Yet, we are no different today.

Even within the professing Body of Christ there is division, dispute, back-biting, grudges and the like.

Such should not be.

The relationship between Esau and Jacob would be difficult.
They would ultimately be restored…many years and miles later.

May we learn from them.
Hold not a grudge.
Seek not the things of the flesh, but rather the things of the Kingdom.
