We saw that Paul does all for the sake of the gospel.
He desired to share the gospel with all people.
1 Co 9:23
I do it all for the sake of the gospel,
that I may share with them in its blessings.
Now, read how the Spirit leads Paul to close this (two chapter!) teaching on giving…
1 Co 9:24-27
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize?
So run that you may obtain it.
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things.
They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.
But I discipline my body and keep it under control,
lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
Run the “race” of faith with discipline.
Exercise self-control…in all things.
We are in pursuit of an Imperishable wreath.
Run with focus. Not aimlessly.
Keep your body under control.
Keep yourself disciplined…body, soul, spirit.
Live as He directs.
Give as He directs.
All to the praise and glory of His grace…
he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ,
according to the purpose of his will,
to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
