“Secret to Possible/Impossible”

May 31, 2019

“Secret to Possible/Impossible”

Blessings folk!

The angel told Mary that with God nothing is impossible.

Luk 1:35-37
The angel answered and said to her,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age;
and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Three of the gospels reiterate the Word of Jesus that with God, all things are possible.

Mat 19:26
And looking at them Jesus said to them,
“With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

 Mar 10:27
Looking at them, Jesus said,
“With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”

 Luk 18:27
But He said, “The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.”

Paul knew the secret.
He knew how to face all things.

Phl 4:12-13
I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity;
in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

The Lord is our strength.
In Him all things are possible.

Trust in that.
Rest in that.

“Who Can Be Saved?”

May 30, 2019

“Who Can Be Saved?”

Blessings folk!

Jesus answered the inquiring young man’s question…

Mat 19:21
Jesus said to him,
“If you wish to be complete,
go and sell your possessions
and give to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven;
and come, follow Me.”

Jesus knew the stumbling block in the heart of the young man - his possessions.

The young man walked away.

Jesus responded…

Mat 19:23-24
And Jesus said to His disciples,
“Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

“Again I say to you,
it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle,
than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Jesus was speaking to His disciples.
How did they respond?

Mat 19:25
When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?”

They acknowledged the problem.
“Who can be saved?”
We all sin.
We all have “things” in which we stumble.

The disciples were “very astonished”.
They wondered.
Dare I say they “panicked”?

Jesus then gave a Word of comfort.
A Word which answered while bringing forth more questions…

Mat 19:26
And looking at them Jesus said to them,
“With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Man himself can not gain eternal life.
There is nothing that can be “done” nor “earned”.

Eternal life is only by God.
With God all things are possible.
Then, the corollary…

Luk 1:37
“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

With God, nothing is impossible.
With God, all things are possible.

Look no where else…

“Enter the Kingdom”

May 29, 2019

“Enter the Kingdom”

Blessing folk!!

The young man walked away.
He thought more of retaining his “riches” than he did attaining eternal life.

Remember his initial question…

 Mat 19:16
And someone came to Him and said,
“Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”

Remember, he had kept most of the Law.
Yet, he failed in the arena of covetousness.

Read Jesus’ response the the young man leaving.

Why is it hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven/kingdom of God?

Because they put their trust in their “riches” rather than in God.

This is not saying that the rich can not enter the Kingdom.

It is saying that you do not enter the Kingdom by trust in riches.

Jesus gave the hyperbolic example of a camel and the eye of a needle.

There is debate as to what is referenced.
A literal sewing needle?
A narrow passage way in a city wall?

Either way, the picture is that of impossibility by the nature of things.

One can not enter the Kingdom by trusting on anything other than Jesus.

What do our lives reflect?

In what/whom do we trust?

“Come, Follow Me”

May 28, 2019

“Come, Follow Me”

Blessings folk!

The young man knew that he lacked something.

He kept the portion of the Law that Jesus had just listed.
He rightly proclaimed such.
He acknowledged that something was lacking.

Read again.
Watch what Jesus does.
Watch the man’s response.

 Mat 19:16-22

And someone came to Him and said,
“Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”

And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good?
There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Then he said to Him, “Which ones?”
And Jesus said,
“YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER;
YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY;
YOU SHALL NOT STEAL;
YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;

HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER;
and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”

The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?”

Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving;
for he was one who owned much property.

Jesus tells him how “to be complete”.
- Go
- Sell your possessions
- Give to the poor
- You will have treasure in heaven
- Come, follow me

The response of the young man?
He went away grieving.
Why grieving?
Because he had much property.

Ahhhhh!

What was revealed?

He kept the law well, except for one portion…that of coveting.

Exo 20:17
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

The “covet” commandments got Paul also… Happy

Rom 7:7
What shall we say then?
Is the Law sin?
May it never be!
On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law;
for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said,
“YOU SHALL NOT COVET.”

The young man thought he could have eternal life by keeping the law.
Jesus revealed that even those who think they could keep the law, did not.

The young man coveted.

Jesus told him what to do.
- Sell all his possessions
- Give to the poor
- Come, follow Me

He would thereby leave the Law and follow the Lord.

The young man did not…at that time.

Many do likewise today…

“What Is Lacking?”

Read the account again.

The man asked “which commandments?”

How does Jesus reply?

Mat 19:16-19

And someone came to Him and said,
“Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”

And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good?
There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

The “all-caps” shows that this a quote from the Old Testament.
Exodus 20 - the ten commandments.

Did you notice anything?
Only six are listed.
The six that concern relationship between men.

Read how the man responds.

Mat 19:20

The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?”

This was likely not hyperbole.
He was likely a fine young man.
He had not murdered.
He had not committed adultery
He had not stolen
He had not borne false witness.
He honored his parents.
He loved others.

Yet, he knew something was wrong.
He knew something was lacking.

Many religious folk are likewise.

“Keep the Commandments”

“Keep the Commandments”

Blessings folk!

Read the account again…

We noted yesterday the mindset of the young man.
He wanted to “do something to obtain eternal life.”

And Jesus said,
“YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER;
YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY;
YOU SHALL NOT STEAL;
YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;

HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER;
and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”

Interesting how Jesus responded?
“Why are you asking Me about what is good?”

Good question.
Why was the young man coming to Jesus?
What did he see in Jesus?
What did he hear?
What did he feel?

Jesus declares that there is only One good…speaking of God.

Jesus then gave him the answer to his question.
“if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments…”

The young man immediately started to…
- clarify?
- quantify?
- question?
- debate?

We do not know his heart, though by the end of the account we have some idea.

He was seeking.
He was searching.
He was aware of the commandments.
We will see that he had kept the commandments.
And yet…
Something was not right.
Something was missing.

Therefore, his question…

So many are like this today.
Many sit in pews.

“Treasure in Heaven”

Blessings folk!

I dare say that most of us are very familiar with the story of the “rich, young ruler”.

Read.
Ask the Spirit to reveal…

Mat 19:16-22

And someone came to Him and said,
“Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”

And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good?
There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Then he said to Him, “Which ones?”
And Jesus said,
“YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER;
YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY;
YOU SHALL NOT STEAL;
YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;

HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER;
and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”

The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?”

Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving;
for he was one who owned much property.

The man came to Jesus.
He knew that Jesus was a teacher…a rabbi.
The man sought an answer to a question…
”what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”

Note the mindset…
- good thing
- I shall do
- to obtain

He expected an answer oriented around the good work of man.

Many religionists are the same today.
They think their good works…their good activity…their good deeds…will provide entry into the Kingdom.

Such is not so.

“Treasure of a Good Word”

May 24, 2019

“Treasure of a Good Word”

Blessings folk!!!

The treasure of our heart is revealed in what we say.

Heed the Word of the Lord…

Mat 12:34-37

“You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good?
For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

“The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good;
and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.

“But I tell you that every careless word that people speak,
they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.

“For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

If that which is in us is good, then good will be spoken, exhibited, manifest.
If that which is in us is evil, then evil will be spoken, exhibited, manifest.

The mouth speaks that which fills the heart.

Then this serious…serious…statement…

“I tell you that every careless word that people speak,
they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgments.

Whoa!

We will be held responsible.

By our words we will be justified.
By our words we will be condemned.

Have you spoken the “word of justification”?
Have you called upon the name of the Lord?
Have you confessed sin?
Have you repented unto salvation?

By such words one is justified.
By believing.

The word of unbelief will bring condemnation.

We all choose…

“Things of Earth/Heaven”

May 23, 2019

“Things of Earth/Heaven”

Blessings folk!

We have been looking at what the Word says about “treasure”.

Remember.
Forget not what the Lord said in what we call the “Sermon on the Mount”.

Mat 6:19-21

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;

for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

What is your “treasure”?
Things of earth?
Things of heaven?

What are you “storing up”?
Things of earth?
Things of heaven?

The treasures of earth will be…

  • eaten by moth
  • destroyed by rust
  • stolen by thieves

They will come to an end.

The treasures of heaven will not be…
  • destroyed
  • stolen

They last for eternity.

Where is your heart?
Do not lie to yourself.
The Lord knows.

Be certain that your treasure is in heaven.
Be certain your heart is where it should be.

“In That Day - the Lord!”

May 22, 2019

“In That Day - the Lord!”

Blessings folk!

Let’s finish the thought in Isaiah 33.

The prophet is seeing things yet to come.
Some will be fulfilled in the near future…from Isaiah’s time.
Some will be fulfilled in the distant future…from Isaiah’s time.
Some will be fulfilled in the far future…from Isaiah’s time.

Some has been fulfilled from our time.
Some has yet to be fulfilled.

Such is the way of the prophetic Word of the Lord.

Give close attention to “people of a stammering tongue”…
Assyrians
Babylonians

Note what we learn about the Lord…

 Isa 33:17-24

Your eyes will see the King in His beauty;
They will behold a far-distant land.

Your heart will meditate on terror:
“Where is he who counts?
Where is he who weighs?
Where is he who counts the towers?”

You will no longer see a fierce people,
A people of unintelligible speech which no one comprehends,
Of a stammering tongue which no one understands.

Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts;
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an undisturbed habitation,
A tent which will not be folded;
Its stakes will never be pulled up,
Nor any of its cords be torn apart.

But there the majestic One, the LORD, will be for us
A place of rivers and wide canals
On which no boat with oars will go,
And on which no mighty ship will pass—

For the LORD is our judge,
The LORD is our lawgiver,
The LORD is our king;
He will save us—

Your tackle hangs slack;
It cannot hold the base of its mast firmly,
Nor spread out the sail.
Then the prey of an abundant spoil will be divided;
The lame will take the plunder.

And no resident will say, “I am sick”;
The people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.

The day will come…

  • When a King will be seen
  • When terror will be no more
  • When a fierce people will no longer be known
  • When Jerusalem will be undisturbed (and restored)…forever

The Lord…
  • The Majestic One
  • Will be for us
  • Our Judge
  • Our Lawgiver
  • Our King
  • Will save us

“Impregnable Rock”

Blessings folk!

Evil will increase.
Darkness will increase.

Yet, a day will come when the Lord arises.

Note what the Lord will do.
Note to whom.
Note why.

Isa 33:11-16

“You have conceived chaff, you will give birth to stubble;
My breath will consume you like a fire.

“The peoples will be burned to lime,
Like cut thorns which are burned in the fire.

“You who are far away, hear what I have done;
And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”

Sinners in Zion are terrified;
Trembling has seized the godless.
“Who among us can live with the consuming fire?
Who among us can live with continual burning?”

He who walks righteously and speaks with sincerity,
He who rejects unjust gain
And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe;
He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed
And shuts his eyes from looking upon evil;

He will dwell on the heights,
His refuge will be the impregnable rock;
His bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.

The Lord will be victorious.
The Lord will consume the peoples with fire.

Sinners will be terrified at the mighty works of the Lord.
Trembling will seize them.

Who can stand before such a consuming fire?

He who walks righteously.
He who speaks with sincerity.
He who rejects unjust gain.
He who does not bribe.
He who refuses to listen about bloodshed.
He who shuts his eyes from looking at evil.

Such a person will dwell on the heights.
Such will have refuge in the Impregnable Rock.
Bred will be given.
Water sure.

Blessings folk!

Remember what we have seen…

Isa 33:6
And He will be the stability of your times,
A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge;
The fear of the LORD is his treasure.

The Lord is the stability of our times.
Especially in troublesome, difficult times.

We think we live in such.
We have no clue.
“Things” will become much more difficult.
Much.
More.

They will look like this…

Note what happens to “brave men”.
Note the reaction of “ambassadors of peace”.
Note the state of infrastructure.
Note the status of eco-structure.

Isa 33:7-9
Behold, their brave men cry in the streets,
The ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.

The highways are desolate, the traveler has ceased,
He has broken the covenant, he has despised the cities,
He has no regard for man.

The land mourns and pines away,
Lebanon is shamed and withers;
Sharon is like a desert plain,
And Bashan and Carmel lose their foliage.

An enemy has broken a covenant.
An enemy has been successful.

What now?

Ah…watch what the Lord says…

Isa 33:10
“Now I will arise,” says the LORD,
“Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.

Yes!

It is in these moments that the Lord will arise.
It is then that the Lord will be exalted.
It is then that He will be lifted up.

We as Believers can live in this moment constantly.

Allow the Lord to arise within you.
Exalt the Lord.
Lift Him up.

Rejoice in what He then does.

“The Stability of Our Times”

Blessings folk!

We live in interesting, some would say “challenging”, times.

This is nothing compared with what is yet to come.

Yet, fear not.
Hear and heed the Word of the Lord…

Isa 33:2-6
O LORD, be gracious to us; we have waited for You.
Be their strength every morning,
Our salvation also in the time of distress.

At the sound of the tumult peoples flee;
At the lifting up of Yourself nations disperse.

Your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers;
As locusts rushing about men rush about on it.

The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high;
He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.

And He will be the stability of your times,
A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge;
The fear of the LORD is his treasure.

The Lord is our strength and stability in all times, especially times of distress.

Note the main principal: the fear of the Lord is His treasure.

His treasure consist of…

  • Righteous fear of Him
  • Strength every morning
  • Driving away of enemies/nations
  • A wealth of salvation, especially in times of distress
  • A wealth of wisdom
  • A wealth of knowledge

Rejoice in the Lord.
Exalt Him.

It is in Him that we live, breath and have our very being.
Wait upon Him in all things.

“I Collected…”

“I Collected…”

Blessings folk!

The writer of Ecclesiastes - the Preacher - speaks of treasure.

Note some of what he collected.
What did it bring into his life?

Ecc 2:8-11

Also, I collected for myself silver and gold and the treasure of kings and provinces. I provided for myself male and female singers and the pleasures of men—many concubines.

Then I became great and increased more than all who preceded me in Jerusalem.
My wisdom also stood by me.

All that my eyes desired I did not refuse them.
I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure,
for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor.

Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun.

He collected for himself…

  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Treasure of kings and province
  • Singers
  • Pleasures of men…many concubines
  • Increase of stuff and fame
  • Wisdom
  • All that his eyes desired
  • All the pleasure of his heart
  • Rewards for his labor

The outcome?
He considered all is activities.
His labor.
His exertion.
It was all vanity.
It was all striving…chasing…after wind.
There was not profit in it.

Such is the fruit centered around two words… “I”
“Collected”

“Treasures By A Lying Tongue”

Blessings folk!

The Proverbs tell us much about how we are to live…even things related to “treasures”.

Read.
Note how we are to attain treasures.
Note what we are to do…

Pro 21:1-6

The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD;
He turns it wherever He wishes.

Every man’s way is right in his own eyes,
But the LORD weighs the hearts.

To do righteousness and justice
Is desired by the LORD more than sacrifice.

Haughty eyes and a proud heart,
The lamp of the wicked, is sin.

The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage,
But everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.

The acquisition of treasures by a lying tongue
Is a fleeting vapor, the pursuit of death.

We are to have “a right heart”.

A heart to do righteousness.
A heart to do justice.
A heart without pride.
A heart without haughtiness.

We are to:

  • Allow the hand of the Lord to turn us as He wishes
  • Seek what the Lord desires
  • Reject the lamp of the wicked
  • Be diligent in planning
  • Be not hasty
  • Not acquire treasure by a lying tongue…such is the pursuit of death

“Keep, Bind, Say”

Blessings folk!

More about the “treasure” of the Lord…

Pro 7:1-5

My son, keep my words
And treasure my commandments within you.

Keep my commandments and live,
And my teaching as the apple of your eye.

Bind them on your fingers;
Write them on the tablet of your heart.

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
And call understanding your intimate friend;

That they may keep you from an adulteress,
From the foreigner who flatters with her words.

We are to…

  • Keep His Words
  • Treasure His commandments…within us
  • Keep His commandments…and live
  • Keep His teaching…as the “apple of our eye”…the focus of all things
  • Bind His Word on our fingers
  • Write His Word on our heart
  • Embrace wisdom
  • Be intimate with understanding

This will keep us from the adulteress…the temptation that draw us from the Lord.
This will protect us from the flatterer.

Pro 2:6-8

For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,

Guarding the paths of justice,
And He preserves the way of His godly ones.

The next word is “then”…

A long list of “then” that occurs…

Pro 2:9-12

Then you will discern righteousness and justice
And equity and every good course.

For wisdom will enter your heart
And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;

“The Lord Gives…”

Blessings folk!

We as Believers have tremendous treasures…the Lord’s
  • Commandments
  • Wisdom
  • Understanding
  • Discernment
  • Knowledge
  • Etc. etc.

Pro 2:6-8

For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,

Guarding the paths of justice,
And He preserves the way of His godly ones.

Note what the Lord does…
He gives…wisdom.
He speaks forth…knowledge and understanding.
He stores up…wisdom for the upright.
He is a shield…to those who walk in integrity.
He guards…the path of justice.
He preserves…the way of His godly ones.

Therefore, rejoice in what the Lord does for each believer.

Walk…

  • Uprightly
  • In integrity
  • In justice

The Lord will guard and preserve.

“Treasure His Commandments…”

“Treasure His Commandments…”

Blessings folk!

Treasure.
The world seeks it.
Believers have it.

Pro 2:1-5

My son, if you will receive my words
And treasure my commandments within you,

Make your ear attentive to wisdom,
Incline your heart to understanding;

For if you cry for discernment,
Lift your voice for understanding;

If you seek her as silver
And search for her as for hidden treasures;

Then you will discern the fear of the LORD
And discover the knowledge of God.

The treasure that we have is the Lord.

For the true believer, He resides in us.

We treasure His commandments.
We listen to His wisdom.
We incline our hearts to understanding.
We cry to Him for discernment.
We lift our voice to Him for understanding

We search for His hidden treasures.

Then…
We will discern the fear of the Lord.
We will discover the knowledge of God.

Let us do so.

“At Least Not in My Life”

May 11, 2019

“At Least Not in My Life”

Blessings folk!

Some more insights on “treasure”.

We are all blessed beyond measure…even the poorest among us are richer than most of mankind could have ever dreamed.

What do we do with our treasure?

We saw earlier that we are not to “store up treasures for ourselves”, but we are to be “rich toward God.”

Read/give heed to this account about Hezekiah…a “good” king…whose bragging about his treasure would cost his country and progeny dearly…

2 Ki 20:12-19

At that time Berodach-baladan a son of Baladan, king of Babylon,
sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all his treasure house,
the silver and
the gold and
the spices and
the precious oil and
the house of his armor and
all that was found in his treasuries.
There was nothing in his house nor in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.

Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him,
“What did these men say, and from where have they come to you?”
And Hezekiah said, “They have come from a far country, from Babylon.”

He said, “What have they seen in your house?”
So Hezekiah answered,
“They have seen all that is in my house;
there is nothing among my treasuries that I have not shown them.”

Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD.

‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house,
and all that your fathers have laid up in store to this day will be carried to Babylon;
nothing shall be left,’ says the LORD.

‘Some of your sons who shall issue from you, whom you will beget, will be taken away;
and they will become officials in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah,
“The word of the LORD which you have spoken is good.”
For he thought, “Is it not so, if there will be peace and truth in my days?”

Hezekiah’s braggadocios hospitality would cost him.

All that had been laid up by generations would be lost to the one before whom he bragged.

Hezekiah’s response?
Repent?

Nope.

He understood the word of the Lord to apply to the future after his reign.
He was correct.

He thought “good, at least there would be peace and truth in my days”.

He cared not about the future.
He cared not about his progeny.
He cared not about the nation/people.

He was distracted by the “things of this world.”

Beware.

“Treasure”

May 10, 2019

“Treasure”

Blessings folk!

…to resume the account of Jesus being questioned and His response…

Luk 12:13-21

Someone in the crowd said to Him,
“Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.”

But He said to him, “Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?”

Then He said to them,
“Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed;
for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”

And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive.

“And he began reasoning to himself, saying,
‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’

“Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones,
and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

‘And I will say to my soul,
“Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come;
take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’

“But God said to him,
‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you;
and now who will own what you have prepared?’

“So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Jesus was dealing with greed.
Apparently greed was the motivation behind the original question.

Note the parable.

The man was rich.
His land was very productive.
What did he do?
He decided to tear down all his barns and build larger ones.
Why?
So as to store the bounty of harvest.

That is not necessarily evil in of itself.

The problem is an issue of the heart.

He determined that he could rest on his goods.
He would eat.
He would be merry.
He would drink.
He would be at ease.

What did the Lord call him?
A fool.

Why?

Because he rested and trusted in the treasures that he has laid up for himself.
He was rich in the things of the world.
He was not rich in God.

In the parable his soul was required that night - he died.
What came of all he had?

What is your treasure?
Where is it?

“Every Form of Greed”

Blessings folk!

Our days are numbered.

How do we “handle” them?
Do we understand the blessing of each day…of each breath?
Or, do we live a life of “greed”, assuming that unlimited days lie ahead.

Read the following account of a moment in Jesus’ life.

Note the question.
Note what the real issue is.
Note how Jesus responded…directed commandments and parable.

Luk 12:13-21

Someone in the crowd said to Him,
“Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.”

But He said to him, “Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?”

Then He said to them,
“Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed;
for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”

‘And I will say to my soul,
“Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come;
take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’

“But God said to him,
‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you;
and now who will own what you have prepared?’

“So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Someone in the crowd wanted Jesus to settle a family inheritance issue.
It is always about the money!

Jesus refused.
Jesus then dealt with the real issue - greed.

Jesus tells them…and us…to beware!
Beware of every form of greed.

Hummmm….

There are varied “forms” of greed?
No doubt.

Examine yourself.
Allow the Spirit to reveal.
Is there any form of greed in your life?

If so, confess it, reject it…then move on.

…to be continued…

“The Lord Sets the Limits…”

May 8, 2019

“The Lord Sets the Limits…”

Blessings folk!

God determines the number of breaths that we will breathe as humans.

The Lord knows our beginning.
The Lord knows our end.
The Lord knows the purpose that He has for us.
The Lord knows the purpose for all that occurs in our lives.

Job gives some insight into such…

Job 14:1-5

“Man, who is born of woman,
Is short-lived and full of turmoil.

“Like a flower he comes forth and withers.
He also flees like a shadow and does not remain.

“You also open Your eyes on him
And bring him into judgment with Yourself.

“Who can make the clean out of the unclean?
No one!

“Since his days are determined,
The number of his months is with You;
And his limits You have set so that he cannot pass.

Yes, the Lord determines the length of our days.
These days are short-lived, particularly from the perspective of eternity.
They flee like a shadow.
We will not live beyond the limit set by God.

Job was in the midst of extreme persecution and tribulation.
His life had become turmoil.
Still, though questioning (near complaining), he knew the truth that our days are in the hand of the Lord.

Now, what will be our response?

Make use of every moment.
Redeem every breath.
Waste not what the Lord has granted.

“Breath”

May 7, 2019

“Breath”

Blessings folk!

Our lives are but fleeting.

Don’t believe it?

You have not lived long enough to know.
You have not seen the Word of the Lord related to such.

Psa 39:4-5

“LORD, make me to know my end
And what is the extent of my days;
Let me know how transient I am.

“Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths,
And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight;
Surely every man at his best is a mere breath.
Selah.

David, the Psalmist, was asking the Lord to reveal how “transient” he ways.

David was not asking for the day of his death or anything like that.

He wanted to live in greater awareness of the precious nature of each breath, of each moment and of each day.

David acknowledged to the Lord that his lifetime…and the lifetime of any individual…was “nothing in Your sight”.

Again, this does not mean that God considers man to be “nothing.”
No.
David is speaking to the timelessness of God.

David is aware that each of our lives is but a mere breath in the greater picture of God and His creation.

This is nothing to be “bummed about”.

This is to be a point of joy and rejoicing.

We must be aware of every breath and what the Lord intends for each breath.

What are you doing with the fleeting breaths provided by the Lord?

“Christ - The Power & Wisdom of God"

Blessings folk!

For what are we searching/seeking?
In what/whom do we trust?
What does your life reveal as your source of wisdom, knowledge and power.

Hear the Word of the Lord…

1Co 1:22-24

For indeed Jews ask for signs
and Greeks search for wisdom;

but we preach Christ crucified,
to Jews a stumbling block
and to Gentiles foolishness,

but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The Jews asked for signs.
The Greeks searched for wisdom.

What did Paul preach?
Christ crucified.

The response of people?
To the Jews it was a stumbling block.
To the Gentiles it was foolishness.

But…!!!

There is a group…those who are called.

The Called consists of Jew and Gentile.

To them, Christ is the power of God.
To them, Christ is the wisdom of God.

Are you among the called?
Have you responded?

Blessings folk!

Read the prayer of thanks that Daniel lifted to the Lord upon His revelation of the mystery…

Dan 2:19-23

Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision.
Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven;

Daniel said,
“Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever,
For wisdom and power belong to Him.

“It is He who changes the times and the epochs;
He removes kings and establishes kings;
He gives wisdom to wise men
And knowledge to men of understanding.

“It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things;
He knows what is in the darkness,
And the light dwells with Him.

“To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise,
For You have given me wisdom and power;
Even now You have made known to me what we requested of You,
For You have made known to us the king’s matter.”

God!

  • All wisdom belongs to Him
  • All power belongs to Him
  • He changes times
  • He changes epochs
  • He removes kings
  • He establishes kings
  • He gives wisdom to wise men
  • He give knowledge to men of understanding
  • He reveals profounds things
  • He reveals hidden things
  • He knows what is in the darkness
  • Light dwells with Him
  • Makes known our requests

We should respond as Daniel
  • Give thanks
  • Give praise
  • Receive what the Lord releases to us
  • Acknowledge that it is the Lord that provides all

“Mystery Known”

Blessings folk!

Daniel and his friends were in trouble…

Dan 2:17-18

Then Daniel went to his house and informed his friends,
Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, about the matter,

so that they might request compassion from the God of heaven concerning this mystery,
so that Daniel and his friends would not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

The Lord answered their inquiry/prayer.

Give attention to what we learn about God, especially related to wisdom…

Dan 2:19-20

Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision.
Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven;

Daniel said,
“Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever,
For wisdom and power belong to Him.

“The matter” was the demand of the King for his wise-men to tell and interpret a dream he had.

None could to it.
Until Daniel.

The Lord revealed the matter/mystery to Daniel.
He did so by a night vision.

Daniel rejoiced in praise/prayer declaring…

  • Let the name of God are blessed…forever and ever
  • Wisdom belongs to God
  • Power belongs to God

Daniel understood that it was not by his power that he now understood the mysterious matter.
It was by the wisdom of the Lord.
It was by the power of God.

He will do the same through us…if we allow.

“Double-Minded”

Blessings folk!

Jesus told us… - to ask in prayer
- to believe
- to ask according to His will
- to ask with proper motive
- to seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness
- to ask
- to seek
- to knock
- to ask of God
- to ask in faith
- to not doubt

We saw yesterday that we are not to be double-minded…

James 1:8

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

What if we are “double-minded”?
What if we are distracted by the things of the world?
What if we torn between two worlds?

James tells us later in his letter…

Jas 4:7-10

Submit therefore to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners;
and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Be miserable and mourn and weep;
let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.

Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

Read the instructions/commandments/directives again…

Submit to God.
Resist the devil…he will flee from you…if you are submitted to God.
Draw near to God…He will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands
Purify your hearts
Be miserable/mourn/weep
Mourn
Humble yourself in the presence of the Lord. He will lift you up.

Be not double-minded.
Be single minded.

Blessings folk!

Jesus told us… - to ask in prayer
- to believe
- to ask according to His will
- to ask with proper motive
- to seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness
- to ask
- to seek
- to knock

Hear through the Spirit from Jesus’ brother James…

Jas 1:2-8

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally,
and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.
For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Ask of God!
- if you lack wisdom
- if you lack joy
It will be given to you.
Liberally.
Without the Lord “chewing you out”. Happy

Ask in faith!
- not wavering
- not doubting
- not being “double-minded”

If you doubt…
If you are double-minded…
You will not receive.

Remember, do not ask amiss after the fleshly desires of the soul.

Ask the Lord in faith and receive.

Such is the way of the Kingdom.

Luk 11:5-10

Then He said to them,
“Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him,
‘Friend, lend me three loaves;

for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;

and from inside he answers and says,
‘Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed;
I cannot get up and give you anything.’

“I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend,
yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

“So I say to you,
ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you.

“For everyone who asks, receives;
