“The Beginning”

April 30, 2017

“The Beginning”

Blessings folk!

We could go on several more days with more of what the Word says about the Fool.
The Lord tells us much!

But, enough already of the Fool. Happy Happy

We would do well to spend some time in a Gospel.

Mark 1:1

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Mark, who wrote Mark, states from the start that what he was about to recount was just the beginning of the gospel - the good news - of Jesus.
Jesus, the Christ - the Anointed One.
Jesus, the Son of God.

This good news continues to this day.
This work of good news continues through His Spirit and Body today.

Luke wrote a similar thought.

Act 1:1-2

The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach,

until the day when He was taken up to heaven,
after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.

About all that Jesus began to do and teach.

Jesus began.
He continues by the Holy Spirit through those that He has chosen.

We as True Believers are the continuation of the work of the Most High.

Rejoice.
Be Faithful.
Press on.

“The Wise Fool…”

April 29, 2017

“The Wise Fool…”

Blessings folk!

More on the Fool.
We do well to be reminded.
Be not the Fool.

True Believers are empowered to walk in the Spirit, not walk in foolishness.

Choose well.

Pro 15:5
A fool rejects his father's discipline,
But he who regards reproof is sensible.

Pro 17:7
Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool,
Much less are lying lips to a prince.

Pro 17:10
A rebuke goes deeper into one who has understanding
Than a hundred blows into a fool.

Pro 17:12
Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs,
Rather than a fool in his folly.

Pro 17:16
Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom,
When he has no sense?

Pro 17:21
He who sires a fool does so to his sorrow,
And the father of a fool has no joy.

Pro 17:24
Wisdom is in the presence of the one who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

Pro 17:28
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise;
When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent.

The Fool:

  • rejects his father’s discipline
  • rejects excellent speech
  • receives not rebukes
  • a life of folly
  • has no sense
  • has no wisdom
  • bring no joy to his father
  • eyes are on the end of the earth
  • does appear wise when silent…but then, opens his mouth…

The Wise/Prudent:
  • has wisdom
  • has understanding
  • receives rebuke
  • excellent speech
  • does not lie
  • regards reproof

Reject the way of the Fool.
Walk not in foolishness.

Walk in the Spirit, as Wise.

“The Fool, Wisdom, Knowledge”

April 28, 2017

“The Fool, Wisdom, Knowledge”

Blessings folk!

More of the Fool…

Pro 12:15
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.

Pro 13:16
Every prudent man acts with knowledge,
But a fool displays folly.

Pro 14:7
Leave the presence of a fool,
Or you will not discern words of knowledge.

Pro 14:16
A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil,
But a fool is arrogant and careless.

The Fool:

  • right in his own eyes.
  • his ways are perfect before him
  • displays folly
  • arrogant
  • careless

The Wise:
  • listens to counsel
  • acts with knowledge
  • leaves the presence of a fool
  • seeks to discerns words of knowledge
  • cautious
  • turns away from evil

Which are we?

Choose the way of the Lord…

Pro 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

“The Fool 2”

April 27, 2017

“The Fool 2”

Blessings folk!

The Word says much about the fool, about being foolish.

It says to not to…be the fool, be foolish.

Give heed to what Proverbs 10 says of the Fool…

Pro 10:8
The wise of heart will receive commands,
But a babbling fool will be ruined.

Pro 10:10
He who winks the eye causes trouble,
And a babbling fool will be ruined.

Pro 10:18
He who conceals hatred has lying lips,
And he who spreads slander is a fool.

Pro 10:23
Doing wickedness is like sport to a fool,
And so is wisdom to a man of understanding.

A Fool babbles.
A Fool will be ruined
A Fool spreads slander.
A Fool does wickedness like a sport.

They wink the eye, causing trouble.
They conceal hatred with lying lips.

But, the wise of heart…

  • will receive commands
  • will be a man of understanding

Do not be the Fool.
Be wise of heart.

If a true Believer, the Lord has granted a new heart…a new life.
Be new!

“The Stupid Fool”

April 26, 2017

“The Stupid Fool”

Blessings folk!

Psa 14:1
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds;
There is no one who does good.

Psa 53:1
For the choir director; according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David.
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God,”
They are corrupt, and have committed abominable injustice;
There is no one who does good.

Well, that explains much about those in the world…and the religionist within the organizational “church”.

The Fool…

  • says there is no God
  • is corrupt
  • has committed abominable deed
  • does no good…none.

Now, give heed to some about the “stupid”…I know, we tell our kids not to call folk “stupid”.
It is a difference in the attitude of heart…

Jer 4:22
“For My people are foolish,
They know Me not;
They are stupid children
And have no understanding.
They are shrewd to do evil,
But to do good they do not know.”

This is the Lord speaking.
Note it is His children who are…

  • foolish
  • stupid
  • lacking in understanding
  • shrewd to do evil
  • unknowing in doing good

They are delusional…

Jer 10:3
For the customs of the peoples are delusion;…

Jer 10:8
But they are altogether stupid and foolish
In their discipline of delusion—their idol is wood!

They are altogether stupid and foolish.
They are disciplined in delusion…what a picture and description!

They are consumed with idolatry.
Everyone.

Jer 10:14
Every man is stupid, devoid of knowledge;
Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols;
For his molten images are deceitful,
And there is no breath in them.

Stupid.
Devoid of knowledge.
Deluded.

The people of the Lord were like this.
But, there is more…

Jer 10:21
For the shepherds have become stupid
And have not sought the LORD;
Therefore they have not prospered,
And all their flock is scattered.

The shepherds of the Lord have become stupid.
The very ones who are to lead the people to the Lord.
Why?
How?
They have not sought the Lord.
The people have not prospered in spiritual growth.
The people wonder about seeking that which is needed.

Every man…
The people…
Shepherds…
All are stupid.

Little has changed.

“Boldness”

April 24, 2017

“Boldness”

Blessings Folk!

Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote the letter we call “Ephesians”.

Toward the end, he request that they pray for him.

Note the things requested…

Eph 6:18-20

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view,
be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth,
to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel,

for which I am an ambassador in chains;
that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Paul is in chains.
An ambassador in chains.
The chains did not stop him.
The chains did not slow him down.
Yes, in the natural the chains limited his travel.
Yet, he knew that the chains were not a limit to the mystery of the gospel.

Too often we use chains as an excuse for disobedience.
Too often we use chains to cover sin.
Such should not be.

Paul asked that they pray on his behalf.
Pray for?
Utterance be given to him.
For his mouth to be opened.
For boldness in proclaiming the mystery of the gospel.

Boldness is mentioned twice.

We usually do not think of Paul as lacking boldness.
Yet, he asked for boldness.
To speak as he ought.

Notice he did not ask for release.
He did not ask for freedom in the natural.

He asked to speak what he should with boldness.

May we pray likewise for OneAnother.
May we speak as Paul.

“With This In View”

April 23, 2017

“With This In View”

Blessings folk!

Review what the Word says about the armor of God…then give heed to the last verse…what are we to do “in view of this”?

Eph 6:13-18
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,

and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;

in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

In view of the fact that we are in a spiritual battle…not against flesh and blood but against principalities in the heavenly realm…

In view of the fact that we are equipped with the armor of God…if we choose to appropriate it…

In view of the fact that we are instructed to pray at all times with all prayer and petition…

In view of all this…

Be on the alert.
Be on the alert with perseverance.
Be on the alert with perseverance and petition for all the saints.

We have responsibility…
We have a role…
For OneAnother.
For all the saints.

Pray.
Do it.

April 22, 2017

“Armor. Appropriate It”

Blessings folk!

Be strong in the Lord and the strength of His might.
Put on the full armor of God.
Take up the full armor of God.
Resist in the evil day.
Stand firm in the full armor of God.

All instructions, commandments for Believers.

What is this armor?

Glad you asked… Winking

Eph 6:14-17
Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,

and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;

in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The armor that every True Believer has is…
Truth
Righteousness
Gospel of Peace
Salvation
Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.

The armor protects our “body”…physical and spiritual.

But, we must appropriate it.

We are to…

  • Gird our loins with Truth
  • Put on the Breastplate of Righteousness
  • Shod our feet with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace
  • Take up the shield of faith
  • Take the helmet of salvation

This is how we battle evil.
This is how we extinguish all…note, all…the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Any other way is false.
Any other way is the way of man.
Any other way is the path of destruction.

Put on the armor…every moment of every day.

“Take Up the Full Armor of God”

April 21, 2017

“Take Up the Full Armor of God”

Blessings folk!

Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

An instruction.
A commandment.
Not a suggestion.

Put on the full armor of God.

Again, an instruction.
A commandment.
Not a suggestion.

Why?
Because we are in a battle.
Not against flesh and blood.
But, against rulers/powers/world forces of this darkness/spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenlies.

We do not battle in the flesh.
We do not battle in the patterns of man.

How do we fight?

Eph 6:13
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day,
and having done everything, to stand firm.

Take up the full armor of God.

Yes, an instruction.
A commandment.
Not a suggestion.

The full armor of God…more later…
It is the full armor of God…not partial, not a portion…
We resist in the evil day in the full armor of God.

We resist evil.
Another instruction.
The full armor enables us to stand in resistance.

And, when having done everything (more on that later) to stand firm.

We are to resist evil.
We are to stand firm…in the Truth, in the Faith, in the Lord.

Having done everything, stand firm.

Too many Believers do not understand that simply standing firm is victory.

Stand firm!

“Finally…”

“Finally…”

Blessings folk!

We saw yesterday that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly realm.

The Lord gives instruction related to such.

Read.
Heed.

Eph 6:10-11

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

Put on the full armor of God,
so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

Be strong in the Lord.
Be strong in the strength of His might

Put on the full armor of God

Why?
So that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

We are called to be strong in the Lord.
We are called to stand firm.
To stand firm in the Lord.
To stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

We do not do this in the flesh.
We do not do this in our own power.
We do not do this in our own volition.

We do so in the power of the Lord.

We put on His armor.

We are in a battle…more so than most comprehend.
We are victorious!
We must live the victory!

“Our Struggle”

April 19, 2017

“Our Struggle”

Blessings folk!

I do not celebrate many of the traditional “holidays” of man.

But there is one that draws my attention every year.

Today.

April 19.

Patriot’s Day.

Why is it called that?

Several important/impactful things occurred on April 19 through the years.

1775 The American Revolution begins
1861 First blood in the Civil War
1933 The United States went off the gold standard.
1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising begins
1993 Branch Davidian compound burns
1995 Truck bomb explodes in Oklahoma City

We would do well to know the true history of these.

We as Believers would do better to be the “patriot” we are called to be in the Kingdom.

We are in a battle, but not a traditional battle of man.

Eph 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness,
against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Our struggle, our battle is not against flesh and blood.
We struggle against rulers…powers..world forces of this present darkness…spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly place.

Yes.
The enemy is satan and his demonic minions.

Note the verse begins with “for”.
What is the context?

We will see tomorrow.

Suffice to say that we are instructed to do some things.

For today, know that the true battle is in the heavenly realm.
True Believers have won through the blood of the Lord Jesus.
We have nothing to fear.
Yet, we are to do some things…

“Bear With This Word of Exhortation”

April 18, 2017

“Bear With This Word of Exhortation”

Blessings folk!

The author of Hebrews…an amazing and fascinating book (though we have only examined chapters 11-13)…closes the letter.

Heb 13:22-25

But I urge you, brethren, bear with this word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.

Take notice that our brother Timothy has been released,
with whom, if he comes soon, I will see you.

Greet all of your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you.

Grace be with you all.

In the final Word, they and we are urged to bear with this Word of exhortation.
Much more could have been said.

An “exhortation” is a word that emphatically urges someone to do something.
Such is Hebrews.
We are urged to live by faith.
We are urged to live in freedom and liberty, not under the law.
We are urged to live before OneAnother in a way reflective of the Lord.

They were to note that Timothy had been released, apparently from confinement.
They hoped to visit soon.

Greetings were forwarded.
To the leaders.
To the saints (all believers).
From the writer.
From those in Italy (believers).

Finally, grace is spoken upon them.

How different our relationships would be is we would begin with grace and end with grace.

Manifest His grace in all things today.

“The Great Shepherd…”

April 16, 2017

“The Great Shepherd…”

Blessings folk!

Hear the Word of the Lord on this day when we give special remembrance to the resurrection of the Lord…

Heb 13:18-21

Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience,
desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.

And I urge you all the more to do this, so that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord,

equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The author sought prayer from the recipients.
So should we.
Pray for OneAnother.

The author desired to conduct himself honorably in all things.
They had a clean conscience about such…that they had done so.

He set the example and urged them to do likewise.

The author then begins a closing doxology…which we will examine more closely tomorrow.

But, for today, he desired for the God of peace…

The Most High God is the God of peace.

The Most High God Who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep…the Lord Jesus.

Another name for Jesus - the Great Shepherd of the sheep.

Rejoice in Him - the Most High.
Give thanks to Him - the Great Shepherd of the sheep.

“Obey, Submit…”

April 15, 2017

“Obey, Submit…”

Blessings folk!

The Lord gives instructions/commandments in Hebrews 13.

We have seen we are to…
  • let love of the brethren continue
  • not neglect to show hospitality to strangers
  • remember the prisoners
  • hold marriage in honor
  • see that our character is free from the love of money
  • remember those who led/lead you, who spoke/speak the Word of the Lord to you. Imitate.
  • remember that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever
  • not be carried away by varied and strange teachings
  • be strengthened by grace
  • go “outside the camp”, bearing His reproach
  • continually offers up a sacrifice of praise to God…through Him
  • not neglect doing good and sharing

Now, the next one.

Heb 13:17

Obey your leaders and submit to them,
for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account.
Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.

We are to obey our leaders…
We are to submit to them…
This is speaking within the Body of Christ.

How do I know?

Because, they keep watch over your souls.
They will give an account.

Of course, this begs the question of “who are the leaders?”
This is another subject for another time, but for today, suffice it to say that the Lord raises up leadership. Leadership in all areas. All believers lead in some form.

Sadly, much of the “leadership” structure in the “organized” church is not biblical.

And we wonder why we have the problems we have?

Another instruction.

Let the leaders lead with joy and not with grief.

The opposite seems to be the norm.

So many hassle and harass leadership.
Of course, many who do so are not saved, just church members.

It is not profitable for us to walk in any other way.

Obey.
Submit.

Remember…

Rom 12:10
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;

Walk in humility before OneAnother…

1 Pe 5:5
You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you,
clothe yourselves with humility toward one another,
for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.

“Sacrifice Of…”

April 14, 2017

“Sacrifice Of…”

Blessings folk!

The Lord continues to instruct us in Hebrews 13.

Heb 13:15-16

Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God,
that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.

And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

What?
We are to continually…without ceasing…offer up a sacrifice of praise to God.
The fruit of our lips…what we say/do…is to give thanks to His name…to Him.
His name reflects all that He is.

How?
Through Him.
Through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Through what He has done for us.
Through who we are in Him.

There is more.

The sacrifice of praise is not just with word.
There will be deed that reflect the heart.

Do not neglect doing good.
Do not neglect sharing.
These sacrifices…note they are sacrifices, not just deed from abundance and excess of resources…please the Lord God.

Listen to the fruit of your lips.
Is there constant praise?
Is there constant giving of thanks?
Or, is there something else?

Look at the pattern of deeds in your life.
Is there sacrifice of good?
Is there sacrifice of sharing?

“Bear His Reproach”

April 13, 2017

“Bear His Reproach”

Blessings folk!

The Jewish Believers addressed in Hebrews were being tempted to go back to the Law, to return to the way of the Temple.

The Lord was showing them, and us, that salvation lies “outside the gate”…”outside the camp”.

Heb 13:12-14
Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood,
suffered outside the gate.

So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking the city which is to come.

He is found outside the Law…outside the traditions of man.

Therefore, let us go to where He is…outside the camp.
May we bear His reproach.
May we experience the skandalon (contrary expectations) that is the cross of Christ…His crucifixion.

Why?
Because “here” is not for eternity.
We do not have a lasting city “here”…now.
We are seeking…anticipating…longing…for a city which is to come.

Jesus suffered to sanctify us through His blood.

We will have times of suffering, yet nothing is to be compared to that time yet to come.

Rom 8:18
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Rejoice!
Bear His reproach.

  • do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers
  • remember prisoners
  • hold marriage in honor
  • be sure your character is free from the love of money
  • remember/imitate those who spoke the Word of God to you

Now, this…

Heb 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Jesus is the same.
Yesterday, today and forever.
He never changes.
He does not vacillate.
He does not waver.

Because of this, the Lord next states…

Heb 13:9
Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings;
for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods,
through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.

A command.
Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings.
Apparently these teachings related to the use of food.

It is better for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by the traditions of man related to food.
Such does not benefit.

Do not be occupied with such strange teachings.

Be occupied with…

  • the Spirit of God
  • the Body of Christ

“Remember, Consider, Imitate”

April 10, 2017

“Remember, Consider, Imitate”

Blessings folk!

The Lord continues His instruction to us.

Give close heed to this one…

Hebrews 13:7
Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you;
and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.

Two things are seen in this verse.

Firstly, the forthright teaching.
We are to remember those who led (and who are leading) us.
The ones who spoke/speak the Word of God to us.

The balance of the phrase gives us understanding.

We are to remember the Word of God.
We are to remember and consider their conduct and faith.
We are to imitate their conduct and faith.

Second, all true believers are called to live in this manner.
Not only remembering, but being those whose conduct and faith people will imitate.

We have been lied to by the enemy.
We have believed that we can not say to someone “do as I do”, “follow my path”.
We believe it to be arrogant and reflective of hubris.
Of course it is a heart issue.
The motivation of our heart reveals the truth.

We are told to live in a way that we can say “do as I do”. Some examples…

2Ti 1:13
Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me,
in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Phl 4:9
What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—
practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

2Ti 2:1-2
You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus,
and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

If we live in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus, then we can say “do as I do”.

Do it.

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,”

so that we confidently say,
“THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID.
WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?”

So, it is a character issue.
The love of money.

We see that as believers we are empowered to live in the proper character.
How do I know?
Because the Lord says “make sure…”.
Again, the love or money and the pursuit thereof, is a character issue…in a negative way.

Make sure you are free from the love of money.
Make sure you are content with what you have.
Why? How?
The Lord Himself said that He would never desert us, never forsake us.

Deu 31:8
“The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you.
He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Our confidence is not in resource.
Our confidence is not in position.
Our confidence is not in money.

Because of this, we can proclaim…

  • The Lord is My Helper
  • I will not be afraid
  • What can man do to me? Nothing.

Be content.
Fear not man and his ways.
Fear the Lord God
He will never desert you.
He will never forsake you.

“Held in Honor…”

April 8, 2017

“Held in Honor…”

Blessings folk!

Let the love of the brethren continue.
Do not neglect to show hospitality to stranger.
Remember those imprisoned, especially for the faith.

The Lord is giving instruction for living the life of faith.

The Lord then deals with two things that are still major problems today.

Look at the first for today…

Heb 13:4
Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled;
for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

Marriage is to be held in honor…among all.

Think about today.
Marriage is not held in honor.
A large portion of young (and old) are not in covenant relationship, yet live as if they are.

Now, let me hasten to state that I am not speaking of the governmental licensing of marriage.
Such is not of God.
It is not the “marriage” of which I speak.

True marriage is a man and woman entering into a covenant relationship with one another and God.
Such should be held in honor.

The marriage bed is to be pure…undefiled.

Why?
What is the Lord addressing?

He makes it clear.

Fornicators and adulterers will be judged by God.

Yet, there is hope.
The Lord will forgive.

Repent.
Confess.
He will forgive and restore.
He will give a place to begin again.

Then, press on in the Kingdom.

“Let Love, Hospitality, Remembrance”

April 7 2017

“Let Love, Hospitality, Remembrance”

Blessings folk!

The Spirit now leads the writer of Hebrews to draw the letter to an end.
Rapid-fire commandments and instructions ensue.

Give heed, especially within the context of Hebrews 11 and 12.

Heb 13:1-3

Let love of the brethren continue.

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers,
for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them,
and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.

Through the New Testament we see commands to love one another. Why a constant drumbeat of reminder?
Because love can be hard.
The enemy desires for the Body to be fragmented, powerless, a joke in the eyes of the world.
True love manifests the very Presence of the Most High.
Remember, Jesus said the word would know we are His disciples by our love for OneAnother.
This love must be pursued.
This love must be protected.
This love must continue.

But, love is not limited to the brethren.

Brethren have a love that those of the world can not experience.
We have the Spirit.
We are one in the Spirit.

But, we are to “love” strangers.
We are to “not neglect to show hospitality to strangers.”
We never know who they are.
Who they are does not matter.
The point being that all are important, whether they be the outcast of man or angels of God.

By the way, angels are real.
They are in our lives.
We may be interacting unaware with angels.

Then, we are to remember prisoners, as though in prison with them.
Remember the ill-treated, since we are in the body.
The picture is to remember fellow Believers who are imprisoned falsely for the faith.

True, we are to remember/help those who are imprisoned for cause.

But, we are especially help those of the Body

Love of OneAnother.
Hospitality to strangers.
Remembering the imprisoned.

True faith has deeds.

Let us live by faith.
Let us live out deeds.

“The Kingdom”

April 6, 2017

“The Kingdom”

Blessings folk!

Remember.
See to it that you do not refuse Him…

Heb 12:25-27

See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking.
For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth,
much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.

And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying,
“YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN.”

This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Things that cannot be shaken?

Heb 12:28-29
Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude,
by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;

for our God is a consuming fire.

The Kingdom!
The Kingdom is that which cannot be shaken.
The Kingdom of God.
We receive it.

The Kingdom is likely the most “under-taught” truth in the church today.

We teach/preach/implement the kingdom of man in the name of God.
But, we do not understand the Kingdom of God.

Think on this.

What did Jesus preach when He was physically on earth?

More often than not people will say “the gospel”.
No.
The gospel is the Good News of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord for our salvation.
Jesus did not preach this.
He preached the Kingdom!
We have received the Kingdom.
Let us show gratitude.
Such is an acceptable service to the Lord.
In reverence.
In awe.

Why?

Our God is a consuming fire!

Live as Kingdom people.

"We Have Come..."

April 4, 2017

“We Have Come…”

Blessings folk!

Hebrews is one of the more intense and profound books in the Word.
We will have to look at it completely some day. Happy

For now, we have been looking at the great cloud of witnesses in Hebrews 11 and have continued through Hebrews 12.

The Lord is showing this group of Hebrew Believers truth related to their salvation.
The same applies to us.

No longer are we under the Law (see Galatians!).
No longer are we in awe of all that happened on Mt. Sinai.
No.
We are in a different place.

Heb 12:22-24
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,

to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven,
and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant,
and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

We have come to Mount Zion.
We have come to the city of the living God.
We have come to the heavenly Jerusalem.
We have come to myriads of angels.
We have come to the general assembly.
We have come to the church of the first born who are enrolled in heaven.
We have come to God…the Judge of all.
We have come to the spirits of the righteous made perfect.
We have come to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant.
We have come to the sprinkled blood of Jesus…blood that speaks better than the blood of Abel. (Abel’s blood was shed because he worshipped as God instructed. Cain did not. Cain choice the anger and wrath of the flesh rather than obedience to God. Therefore, Abel’s blood is a type of sacrifice.)

This is who True Believers are in the new covenant.
Positionally this is where we stand before the Lord.
Yes, we are still in these corporeal bodies.
But, we have that which we will receive.

Rejoice!
Manifest the Present of He Who mediates for us.

“You Have Come To…”

April 3, 2017

“You Have Come To…”

Blessings folk!

The children of Israel had “seen” the Lord in His might and power.

They “saw” Him as…

Hebrews 12:18-19
For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire,
and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,

and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.

They experienced Him at The Mountain.
They saw the Fire.
They saw the Dark.
They saw the Gloom.
They saw the Whirlwind.
They heard the blast of the Trumpet.
They heard the sound of the Word.
They begged to hear no other Word…it rattled them.

Deu 18:16
“This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God,
let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.’

Heb 12:20-21
For they could not bear the command,
“IF EVEN A BEAST TOUCHES THE MOUNTAIN, IT WILL BE STONED.”

And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said,
“I AM FULL OF FEAR and trembling.”

But, this is not who we are as true Believers.
For today, rejoice in what we learn here…

Heb 12:22-24
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,

to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven,
and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant,
and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

Not Mt. Sinai.
Mount Zion!

Not a city of man.
The City of God!

Not Jerusalem.
The Heavenly Jerusalem!

Not among rebellious angels…demons.
Among myriads of angels.

This is just the beginning.
Oh what awaits us…!!

Fear not in this life.
Rejoice in that which is yet to come!

“You Have Not Come…”

April 2, 2017

“You Have Not Come…”

Blessings folk!

So, back to Hebrews after a short side-trip to get more insight into Esau.

Read again the Esau passage, then note what is said afterwards.

Heb 12:14-19

Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.

See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God;
that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;

that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau,
who sold his own birthright for a single meal.

For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing,
he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire,
and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,

and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.

We are to:

  • pursue peace with all men
  • pursue sanctification
  • see to it that no one comes short of the grace of God
  • see to it that no bitterness springs up causing trouble
  • see to it that there be no immoral or godless person…like Esau

Why? Because we have not come to a mountain that can be touched…to a blazing fire…to darkness…gloom…whirlwind…blast of a trumpet…sound of words that caused those who heard to be no further word.

This is all what happened on Mt. Sinai…Exodus 18, 19, 20.
This is a picture of the Law.

We have not come to this.

We have come to something else.
Something different.
Something that enables us to live in a different way.
…to be continued…

“Consoled By Plans To Murder"

April 1, 2017

“Consoled By Plans To Murder"

Blessings folk!

The plan/scheme/conspiracy worked.

Jacob was the head.

Esau relinquished his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of beans.
For the needs of the flesh he vacated the God-given right of leadership.
For the sake of the moment he renounced where God had placed him.

Jacob saw the moment.
Jacob saw the opportunity.
He ceased it.

Now another opportunity.
The Blessing.
All had gone as planned.
Isaac had spoke the Blessing over Jacob.

All is now well, no?
No.

Gen 27:41-46

So Esau bore a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near;
then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

Now when the words of her elder son Esau were reported to Rebekah,
she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him,
“Behold your brother Esau is consoling himself concerning you by planning to kill you.

“Now therefore, my son, obey my voice, and arise, flee to Haran, to my brother Laban!

“Stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury subsides,

until your brother’s anger against you subsides and he forgets what you did to him.
Then I will send and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?”

Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am tired of living because of the daughters of Heth;
if Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of Heth, like these, from the daughters of the land,
what good will my life be to me?”

The family was already fragmented:
Rebekah/Jacob
Isaac Esau

Now they would be fragmented geographically.

Esau consoled himself with thoughts of murder.
Too many do likewise today, even professing believers.
They console themselves with thoughts of evil and harm against another.
They seek their own revenge.
They forget the Word of the Lord…

Rom 12:19
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.

The plan of man will bring division and strife.
The plan of man will bring evil and death.
The plan of man will bring years of brokenness.
The plan of man is fertile ground for the work of the enemy.

Seek the mind of the Lord, not the plan of man.
Set not your mind on the consolation of what man might do.
